Explore the Living World of Scottish Gaelic: Language, Culture, and Community
Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig) is more than a language—it’s a vibrant way of life, deeply rooted in the land, history, and traditions of its people. Far from being a relic of the past, Gaelic culture thrives today in songs, stories, and gatherings that bring its richness to life.
Introduction to Scottish Gaelic Language and Culture
This 8-week in-person course is your gateway to immersing yourself in Gaelic as a living, breathing tradition. Perfect for beginners, it offers more than just language instruction—it’s an invitation to experience the heart of Gaelic culture.
Through a unique cèilidh-style format, inspired by traditional Gaelic gatherings, you’ll connect with others while learning essential skills, including:
Pronunciation and foundational vocabulary
Singing traditional Gaelic song choruses
Exploring storytelling, naming traditions, and clan structures
Revitalization and Connection
This course doesn’t shy away from the history of colonization and cultural suppression faced by Gaelic communities. Instead, it shines a light on ongoing revitalization efforts, helping learners become part of a broader movement to keep Gaelic traditions alive. You’ll also explore connections to reconciliation efforts, reflecting on your relationship to Gaelic—whether through ancestral ties or a passion for cultural learning.
By the end of this journey, you’ll have more than language skills; you’ll join a community dedicated to preserving and celebrating Scottish Gaelic culture.
